Andrew Goodwin

Goodwin Believed that there was a relationship between lyrics and visuals, where he says that a music video can be influenced by the lyrics in the video. Doing this not only adds visuals to the lyrics illustrating them but also can amplify the lyrics making the viewer think about them more in depth. Goodwin also saw a link between the music and the visuals of a music video such as cutting scenes in time with the music to amplify it however it could also be used to contradict the music which could also amplify it if done correctly. Goodwin stated that genre does exist within music videos such as live performance, narrative, conceptual or a studio performance. The ideas of genre within music videos is a very interesting one as it highlights different ways that the music can influence what is created for the music video. Goodwin also saw that the ideas of getting to see your favourite artists up close in a music video was very appealing and the ideas of star iconography was very important for branding. On the theme of star iconography Goodwin also saw the idea of viewer based voyeurism which would be brought around by sexual imagery in the video, the idea of this is important as it can differ based on the artist and what the artist is trying to say in their music.
