Lighting

This is the lighting setup I could use to create different effects on a close up of a person, in the picture the frontal ring light is not on however the two side lights are, the position they are currently in would allow us to create Rembrandt lighting. Using this setup however allows us to create almost any lighting we want as some lights were on pully's and the others can be easily moved around by hand. The room is also quite small and it's dark interior allows the lights to be more clear in what they are lighting. The white background acts as a good backdrop as it reflects the light back, if we were to use a black backdrop it would absorb the light and make lighting the subject more difficult.
Three point lighting allows for a variety of lighting styles and will allow you to create multiple forms of different effects using the variety of different combinations

such as being back lit by the back light to create a silhouette for noir style films. Heavy emphasis was put on this technique during the noir genre as it could create depth that the cameras of the time couldn't. The director could also use addons to the lights to create effects for rooms such as the famous venation blinds.

This is an example of the Rembrandt lighting we captured using this set up. The Rembrandt lighting is hard to get right so it took a few tries however you can tell it is Rembrandt because of the triangle under the eye. I don't believe we did this very well when recording this as the triangle wasn't clear enough in my opinion, if I was to do this again I would add more light on the right side to try and make the triangle more visible to the camera.
Here are some other videos taken using the different lighting styles.
